human geo day 5

today in class we went over the Garcia story. with the strong words that are used in it. like the word agora which is Greek it was the center of the town and athletic, spiritual and political assembly area. that's where people could vote and had topics that went with every days life like roads and jobs and all. we also talked about polis and this means political entities ruled by the bodies of citizens.  the origin word for politics comes from the Greek word polis. we talked about the importance of 508 BC and why this was so important. this date was the birth of democracy, for the first time in all history that was recorded people have never revolted against their rulers until ancient Greek did which is when they indurduced the first ever political government. we also talked about Socrates, his method, and death. Socrates worked as an young boy as an stone man he fought in the Peloponnesian war.
the method he use to use was to ask questions to make people think and then he will have a guess of what the choice of the vote will win because of what people said. for Socrates death he was on trial for impiety not believe in the gods. vis not that he didn't believe in the god its that he learned all around of what people believed. he went on trial with a jury of 500 people. he was found guilty and made a point that they should be rewarding him free dinner instead of the death penalty. but soon enough he was about to drink poison hemlock that shuts your body down slowly which means the death was very pain full their was a painting on this by a French artist in 1787. the jury vote was 279-221 which was pretty 50 50 if you ask me. this is all we did today but tomorrow we go over what the Greek meant when they called you stupid.
